Dragons News · Chalk Talk with the A.D.

Mr. Deaton, who is our Athletic Director and Assistant Principal here at DeSoto High School, has many responsibilities to make sure all athletics go smoothly. I got the chance to speak to Mr. Deaton about being the A.D. and some of the challenges he faces.

Q: How do you manage to keep everything moving smoothly between the different sports and coaches?

A: A lot of communication between the AD office, coaches and maintenance. Our coaches work very well together with sharing the different practice facilities and in some cases players that are on multiple teams. Also working with Ms. Huskey and the other ADs verifying multiple times the games, officials and workers for the events.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you face being the Athletic Director?

A: Keeping everything scheduled without any conflicts and having everybody show up on time and in the correct places. It is a group effort to keep everything running smooth.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: Watching the student/athletes compete and having fun.
