Varsity Boys Basketball · Chalk Talk with a Twist

On January 30, 2018 Austin West (12) reached his high school career 1000 points against Hillsboro at home. This is a huge accomplishment for a high school basketball player. The photo above is of Austin West and his brother Brenden West. Brenden also played basketball at DeSoto a couple of years ago. I got the chance to ask West a few questions about his 1000th point and this is what he had to say.

Q: What was going through your head when you reached your career 1000th point?

A: Just score the bucket to get it over with.

Q: Who is your biggest role model that helped you reach this goal?

A: Coach Hammond, he always pushes me to do my best and I couldn’t thank him enough.

Q: Since you have reached 1000 points what is your next goal this basketball season?

A: Win districts and have a winning record for the first time in 6 years.

Congrats Austin on your huge accomplishment! Can’t wait to see all of the goals you achieve in the future!
