The varsity boys track team had a very successful season last year, and they are hoping for the same this season. The team has already started off the season with a couple of track meets. I got the chance to speak to Coach Genge about their team and this is what he had to say:
Q: What is your team’s main focus during practice?
A: Each day we truly try to focus on our effort and getting a little bit better in whatever we are working on. Depending on the event and what we are struggling with our focus varies. But as a whole track is a process of building blocks toward our final goal of trying to make it to state. So each day we want to improve and get one step closer to that goal.
Q: What are you expectations for this season?
A: Our expectations this season is to return many of our upperclassman to state and move up in the places we finished. We would also like to see some of the guys that fell just short last year have make it to the next level. We have a couple of school records that have a chance to be broken and would love to see those fall.
Q: What will be the biggest challenge your team will face this year?
A: Probably our biggest challenge this season is replacing Lamont in terms of points and as a member of our team. When you have a division I athlete on your team he can do alot, find young guys to fill those holes can be a challenge. Other challenges is finding out what new members of our team are able to do. With 19 events we allow guys the chance to try different things early in the season before we lock down what we are wanting to work on for the long haul.
Good luck this season to the boys track team!
