De Soto High School Families,
As a school district, the health and safety of our students, staff, and parents is paramount. On the morning of September 23rd, De Soto #73 School District officials received a phone call from the Jefferson County Health Department notifying us a high school student has received a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test. The infected student was last in attendance on Friday, September 18th and traveled to the varsity football game at Festus High School; however, the individual did not play in the varsity contest.
Through our contact tracing, and, ultimately the quarantining of many members of the Junior Varsity and Varsity football team, it is with the deepest of regret that De Soto High School will be forced to cancel the following football games:
- September 25th Varsity Football vs. Windsor
- September 28th Junior Varsity Football @ Windsor
- October 2nd Varsity Football @ St. Vincent
- October 5th Junior Varsity Football @ St. Vincent
Unfortunately, the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be unable to field a team those evenings due to quarantines related to COVID-19. At this time, the Junior High Football program will keep their schedule as planned, and the members of the Junior Varsity and Varsity football team that are not under quarantine will continue to practice.
Also, cancelling the football game this week is especially disappointing since it is homecoming. As of right now, all homecoming activities originally scheduled for this week will be postponed until the week of October 5th. These include: the football game, parade, and the announcement of homecoming court. The building of floats will continue until October 9th when we are able to have a homecoming parade. The Dragons will face the Hillsboro Hawks at J.C. Culwell Stadium on Friday October 9th with a 7:00 PM kick off.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Activities Office.
With Dragon Pride,
De Soto High School Activities Director
