Multiple Teams · Chalk Talk: Volleyball Team Kills Senior Night

Image (2)

Thursday, October 11, the DHS Volleyball team hosted their senior night against Seckman High School. They won the game in two sets. During the game Senior, Kelsey Davidson, achieved her 500th career kill. The volleyball seniors are Kelsey Davidson, Kylie Hardin, Marissa Robinson, and Rachel Copeland. I got the chance to ask Kelsey Davidson a few questions about her big accomplishment.

Q: Who is your inspiration when you play volleyball? And did ever imagine that you would accomplished such a big thing in your high school career?

A: My inspiration when I play volleyball is my younger self because I always want to work hard to make all of the time I put in at a young age worth it. I didn’t think that I would accomplish 500 kills during my high school career; I didn’t even know it was a possibility until about halfway through the season.

Congratulations Kelsey on your huge achievement and good luck to the seniors in their future!

Brescia is located in Owensboro, Kentucky which is about four  hours away from De Soto. Canada has played baseball for twelve years.,  including as a varsity player all four years of his high school career. He is on a select team called the St. Louis Gamers. When asked what he was looking forward to when he continuing  his baseball career , he answered with, “What I am looking forward to most about playing college baseball is meeting some great guys, traveling around the country, and playing a game I love for another four  years of my life. Dragons News · What’s Trending? Spirit week.

IMG_8019[1]

All that was on anyone’s mind last week was what they will be for the next spirit day. The DHS student council members decide on the spirit day themes every year. This year, the student council  decided on these spirit days; Monday, Hawaiian Day; Tuesday, Senior Citizen Day; Wednesday; Under the Sea; Thursday; Throwback Thursday; and Friday, Green and White Day. Our homecoming theme this year is Under the Sea. This year we had widely spread school spirit throughout the week, with over 720 students attending the Homecoming Dance on saturday night. The spirit days were all a complete success, and everyone enjoyed their time at the dance. What will be in store for next year?

Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Athlete of the Week; Lauren Murphy

_MG_9880Lauren Murphy, senior, has played softball since her sixth grade year. Murphy has played on the DHS varsity softball team for three years. The  softball team played Farmington High for the last regular season game. In this game, not only did Murphy hit a grand slam, but it was her first home run of her softball career. When interviewed, Murphy tells us,  “Even though we were down by two I was just having fun and the bases just seem to be loaded when I was at bat. As soon as I hit the ball I could feel it just pop off my bat so I knew it had to be deep outfield but as I was rounding second it actually sunk in that I hit a grand-freaking-slam. It felt really good knowing that I could actually do that and I owed one to my dad before my senior softball season is over. So that one was for him and I still can’t believe that I really did that.”  We ended up winning that game. Murphy  helped the team to victory and DHS will miss her skills on the field next year.

Dragons News · Chalk Talk: DHS Dance Team

DHS Dance Team
DHS Dance Team

On Friday, October 6, the DHS Dance Team performed during halftime of the homecoming football game. They also performed at the pep assembly at school that day. The Dance Team had a lot to prepare for that day, so I talked to Coach Swyers and asked her what they did to prepare.

Q: What has the dance team done to prepare to dance in the big Homecoming football game this Friday?

A: We have worked on three dances for Homecoming – our pep assembly routine, the boys pep assembly routine (the MANcers), and our Homecoming game routine.  We have been learning and practicing these routines for the past month and a half, including 6 am practices twice a week.

Congrats to the Dance Team on a fantastic routine Friday night!
